THINGS TO DO IN BOHOL (Chocolate Hills, Island Hopping, Wildlife Eco Park, Butterfly Habitat, Loboc River Cruise)

Hello! This is Part 2 of my 3-Part Bohol Travel and Itinerary Series. On today’s post I’ll be sharing with you all the fun activities macho kid and I experienced during our 3-day stay in the beautiful islands of Bohol. 🙂

THINGS TO DO IN BOHOL

Look. If I were in a trip together with my friends the itinerary would probably be a bit different. But I was with my 55 yr old tita and an 8 year old. I thought of fun activities in Bohol that a kid and an elderly would enjoy. Here’s a summary of places we’ve been to and rates of each.

Chocolate Hills – 50php/head

Loboc River Cruise – 550php/adult 250php/kids 4ft and below
Island Hopping – 600php/head (group rate, with other people)

My tita has a friend who provided us a van and driver and we paid 5,000php for 3 day service. I’m sorry if I cannot divulge the contact information of their service because I wasn’t allowed to.

Chocolate Hills

Our first stop was Bohol’s famous Chocolate Hills. We see em everywhere from postcards to stock images. They have strict rules implemented that people can only view this spot from a certain distance. It costs 50php tourism fee.

You have to climb around 200+ stairs to reach the top where you’d get to take lots of photos for your instagram or appreciate the view. Just like how macho kid is doing with a 5php binoculars.

Butterfly Habitat

Macho kid loves butterflies and moths. So when I heard there’s a butterfly sanctuary in Bohol I requested that it becomes a part of our itinerary. It’s disappointing though. When we came in there aren’t much butterflies inside. Most of them are dead inside the glass frames where you can take fun photo ops.

We’ve had more fun in the Butterfly Sanctuary in Sentosa Singapore a few years ago.

Bohol Wildlife Sanctuary

Bohol’s Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the better zoos in the Philippines. The animals are well fed and taken care of. The park also observes strict rules with guests especially when handling the tarsiers. I was a bit annoyed with a few people who were with us in the tour. SO STUBBORN!

Tarsiers HATE noise and bright lights, but they kept on talking out loud + using flash for their pictures. One tarsier commited suicide and jumped of a tree due to stress RIP. I couldn’t help but report the folks to the head office and requested to be STRICTER for the sake of the animals.

Macho kid enjoyed handling the snakes, reptiles and the fluffy owl. Upon exiting they have a souvenir shop where you can buy crispy fried worms. They’re delicious! Tastes like green peas with high protein content.

BOHOL WILD LIFE

Loboc River Cruise

We were starving by lunchtime so I’m glad our next stop was the Loboc River Cruise. This is a MUST-HAVE in any itinerary. It’s a 1-hr cruise along the Loboc River with buffet while you’re serenaded by the band per boat.

Prepare for a long line and waiting if you didn’t book a reservation. The food was surprisingly good, even better than what we had at Bohol Bee Farm’s Restaurant. You get unlimited servings of shrimp, seafood, adobo, and even desserts. Sodas & Drinks not included.

ISLAND HOPPING

We were planning to just stay on Panglao Island but jop wanted to go island hopping. Who could say no to an inquisitive kid? A spontaneous non-scheduled boat ride cost me around 1,700php which includes a tour to 3-4 islands + snorkelling.

I got to eat fresh uni for just 20 pesos per serving (less than a dollar!) and Jop got to enjoy bird feeding on the church sanctuary. But our favourite adventure is the underwater snorkelling. I didn’t have a waterproof camera with me so jop and I went there off-cam, but the memory is forever engraved in our heart. Jop was so brave jumping off the boat and keeping his head submerged underwater. There were many live corals and fishes.

Sadly there were some places polluted with plastic, so jop and I did our share of picking up the trash and bringing them to the proper disposal. We were surprised that Bohol’s sand was almost as powdery fine as the one in Boracay.

Final Thoughts

Jop loved every minute of our Bohol Adventure and asked me if we can come back again (even if we weren’t on board the departure plane). The Philippines is a beautiful country if only the rest of the nation appreciated it AND not just go for the sake of Instagram. Again, leave only footprints. Take only but photos.
