The best hand pulled noodles in Manila? Shanghai Hand-Pulled Noodles

The first time I had a craving for handpulled noodles was when a drag queen, mentioned it on Drag Race Philippines. I think it was Verushka Levels? So of to search I went. Luckilly, there’s a hand-pulled noodles place in Banawe Quezon City! Shanghai Hand-Pulled Noodles!

Trust me, this is a hidden gem in the city that needs more attention (and recognition)

Compared to regular machinemade noodles, you can actually see the chefs in the kitchen, making and stretching the dough to make various noodle shapes and sizes, FRESH. They also have a better taste, and texture. It has this special “bite” to it what makes it enjoyable to chew.

According to the restaurant, all of their noodles are made fresh daily and by batch order.

Shanghai Handpulled Noodles Review

I ordered only three dishes because I was just dining alone: Shrimp dumpling, Century Egg, and Beef and Tendon Noodles.

The servings were huge! I believe each order is good for two people!

Century Egg – They tasted clean, with the right amound of dark creaminess that I love about these black eggs. They sprinkled chili powder on top too which added that extra kick. I wish they included a sweet soya on top or on the side. Because the egg on its own can taste a bit bland.

Shrimp dumplings – Not your ordinary dumplings, this also had pork and kinchay along with the shrimp. I asked for fried dumplings but they served it to me steamed. So I was a bit disappointed on that part. However, the dumpling is deliciouss and heavy on the stomach. The dough cover was not too thick that ensured all the meat fillings were the highlight of the dish.

Beef with tendon hand-pulled noodles – The star of my orders hehe. I was really excited to try the noodles, I ordered the flat and semi-thick. I was shocked to see how huge the serving was, with generous toppings of beef and tendon. Fragrant and flavorful.

However, they didnt indicate in the menu, or told me, that it was spicy. Very spicy. From a scale of 1-5 I would rate it as 3. It came with a separate side of soup, but the noodles were also on top of a thick beef broth.

The beef and tendon were tender, and pairs well with the noodles. Even on its own, the noodles can carry itself. So delicious!

For beverages, they have soda and a hong kong iced tea that’s caffeine free so I shouldnt worry.
