A social experiment: Do people still read blogs?
I’m not sharing this post anywhere on social media. Not on facebook. Not on twitter. Not on linkedin. Not on intagram. Not on tiktok (RIP). The past few days I’ve been contemplating if I should still continue blogging. I actually have two working domains! (themachomom.com and kikaysikat.com), with Kikaysikat being my news bin, and The Macho Mom where I write all my personal content, reviews and what nots.
The last story I wrote on this one was our recent trip to Taiwan. It did not have any structured itinerary, but it was moreso like a journal. A memento to look back to years after travel.
This was the original purpose of blogs when it was first “invented”. It came from two words: biography and log. It was a bio-log, blog.
Years forward during its heydey it became the source of all information prior social media. News, reviews, tips, advice, and famous listicles. Gotta question? Google it, and hundreds and thousands of blog links will pop up in your search results.
But nowadays with the recent artificial intelligence (AI) boom, and with search engines prioritizing AI results (with mostly inaccurate information) there’s been less interest from people (I think) from googling and most would now rely to find real information via videos on social media.
I do appreciate the written format. Especially when I need to take down specific details, or take a closer look at a product or swatch. It takes less effort for me to pause or screenshot, and the quality is miles better.
However I wonder, do other people think the same?
I can’t let go of – yet – of my babies. They still have much use for me, even if these would be on a more personal note and less of the financial gain it had during its popularity.
So I’m thinking, what written content would YOU still want. What written content would still have value for me, and you. I’m tired of keeping up with the trends or any SEO strategy.
Maybe it’s time to write what I want, and maybe others who are searching for what I’ve written, finds its way to them. Just like the old days.
