My Hyper fixation on Coco Ichibanya’s Chicken Curry

This was supposed to be a review. But then I noticed something. Eating the same order, at the same restaurant, every week – is not normal. I’m not sure if this is a symptom of me having a bipolar disorder, but more often than not I get hyper fixeted on things every since I was little from owning pets, to buying the same thing in every color, and to eating the same food for a long time.

Hyperfixation happens when you’re completely engrossed by something, to the point where it becomes all-consuming and disrupts your day-to-day functioning. It gets hard to focus on anything other than the object of your hyperfixation. You can become hyperfixated on a hobby, interest, person, place, etc.

Can’t help it though. Coco Ichibanya’s curry is the best! They are consistent with each plate, and my heart and tummy feels happy afterwards.

I usually get the omelette chicken cutlet curry – which has a delightfully creamy flavour that balances the spice – but I wanted to savour the simplicity of the dish so I ordered the standard version.

For 390+ ish dish, I can say it’s worth it.

I believe, they use 15 different spices for the curry sauce, which you can order in 8 levels of spiciness. My perfect level is 4, the hotness that lets you chomp 3-4 spoonfuls before requiring you to chug gulps of water.

Coco Ichibanya Chicken Curry

Why do I love thee chicken curry?

  • The chicken cutlet they use is big and tender. It also tastes fresh, not frozen.
  • The breading stays crisp when served, except when submerged too long in the curry albeit it turns soggy. So my tip for this is immediately separate your chicken, or request them to serve the chicken cutlate on a separate plate
  • The curry sauce is ultimately mouth watering. There’s nothing else like it. It has the perfect balance of spice, sweet, salty, and umami. The keyword here is balance.
  • Satisfying
Beef Curry

My boyfriend ordered beef curry with a spice level of 2 (lame! just kidding) and I’m just grateful he also lets me eat here, whenever we go to Vertis, and I order the same thing.

Their calamansi iced tea is the perfect match for the curry. Balances out the spice and umami with a clean fresh citrus sweetness.

It’s delicious.

Writing this makes me crave again for another plate.

So let me dress up, so I can visit Coco Ichibanya again.

They have the best curry in the Philippines. Trust me.

PS: Boyfriend and I tried ordering this through delivery and it still tastes delish
